Milford Sound, Mirror lakes and Eglinton valley

Woke up early for my tour of the Milford sound and various other sites today.
We drove to Te Anau then through the mountains and down to the Milford sound for a 2 hour cruise.

We had a great guide who told us lots of informative things about the surrounding glacial valleys, settlements, wildlife and the general culture of the areas we drove through.  Overall it was incredibly informative and at the same time unbelievably beautiful.

Eglinton valley is so wide and empty, this is where some scenes from the Lord of the Rings were shot, advertisement companies from all over the world also use this valley for various types of adverts.
This entire valley was formed by glaciers retreating up the valley, you can't go to many places without encountering glacial activity in Fiordland, or the west coast of New Zealand for that matter.

The mirror lakes

Me and the glacial valley.  I also got the chance to try glacial water!

Kia Ora Milford sound

It was a bit misty but it cleared up later.  I got to see the best of the Milford sound in Rainy conditions and in very sunny conditions too.
I have to admit it is a spectacularly bewitching place, the thousands of waterfalls and the mists creeping in over the cliff sides give it a spooky yet lively feel but when the sun comes out the water just glistens and the the vegetation on the cliff sides and the mountains stand out amazingly.  Sorry if my description seems a tad inadequate and not very detailed but it's just too good for words in a sense, you'd have to visit it to understand what I mean.

New Zealand seals!

As a part of the "deep south" part of my stray tour we visited some other sites that were situated along the route to the Milford sound such as the casm and various walks.
We stayed at Guns Camp in the mountains in the middle of nowhere.  The place was really peaceful and quiet, a nice place to chill out and have an explore.  Me and Laura went to see the glow worms at night and have a look at the stars.

The day after we drove to Invercargill.  By far the most tedious and disappointing stop on my tour, The town was deserted and there was not much to do at all.  I mean I'm sure the town is suited best for the needs of the local community and it does seem like a nice little town but it isn't the best place for backpackers to stay.
The next day however we went seal spotting and then drove back to Queenstown in preparation for our journey to Mt Cook national park the next day.
