Abel Tasman - Greymouth 30/12/2013

Hiya!  Sorry for not updating the blog sooner but I have been ridiculously busy and the internet access at Franz Josef was awful so I haven't managed to do much on my ipad, but better late than never I suppose.
On the 30/12/2013 we drove from Abel Tasman to Greymouth, we couldnt stop in Punakaiki because all the hostels were full.  We drove through amazing country, made a load of stops to see various sites (despite the rain -.-)

A joke made by our driver.  Some didnt find it amusing

We went to the seal lookout and saw some....

SEALS!

We then drove to the pancake rocks in Punakaiki.  They were formed 30 million years ago from minute fragments of dead marine creatures and plants landed on the seabed about 2 km below the surface. Immense water pressure caused the fragments to solidify in hard and soft layers. Gradually seismic action lifted the limestone above the seabed. Mildly acidic rain, wind and seawater sculpted the bizarre shapes.

Me looking happy with the pancake rocks

We then drove into Greymouth and spent the night there.  Its a nice little town but there's not a lot to do, we went out to the irish pub and the other hostel for drinks and bought costumes for the new years eve party that we would be attending at Franz Josef the next day.
Got some really decent pictures too
